In a recent YouTube video for Gohigh, high school fashion designer Lee Yoo Na made an appearance to tackle BLACKPINK’s famous hanbok look. She went through and talked about all the members’ looks before revealing the final outcome. She starts off with the one and the only, Jennie.

For Jennie, her dopo and baeja really stood out to me.

She explained that a dopo is something that only scholars wore back in the day, with the main focal point of the top being its long length.

She revealed that for Jennie’s look, they cut it to make it shorter and more modern.

They cut it short so that she could perform in it but they did use the remaining fabric and wrapped it around her waist like a skirt.

Next, the young designer goes on to explain what a baeja is and how Jennie wore it in their music video.

She is wearing something over her top and it’s called a baeja. It’s similar to a vest and is meant for women to wear. They used the sleeveless top and lined it with fur for extra warmth in the winter.

Next up, she described the meaning and history behind Lisa‘s look.

For Lisa, the jeogori and her skirt are the focal points of her outfit. The norigae that is attached to her jeogori is really unique.

The norigae is usually worn on a ribbon around the waist.

However, Lisa wore it as a scarf. It showed off the detail with a more Korean vibe.

As for her skirt, I was really interested in the pattern so I looked it up to find out it was a skirt made by the brand Maje. I believe that they were mimicking the traditional clothing and pattern worn by the people in Thailand since she is Thai.

She continues on with a break down of Rosé‘s hanbok look.

With Rosé, her cheollik and chest piece stood out the most.

Typically, cheolliks were worn by men in the Joseon Dynasty.

However, they’ve been modernized and reinvented in our current days so that women can wear it now.

In regards to what she’s wearing underneath, you may wonder if that can be considered hanbok but it is a chest piece. It was an undergarment type of clothing worn by women back in the Joseon Dynasty.

Last, but definitely not least is member Jisoo and her hanbok outfit.

For Jisoo, her waist skirt and norigae were the two focal points of her entire outfit.

— Lee Yoo Na

With her waist skirt, it was already on the shorter side, but instead of wearing it around her waist, they pulled it all the way up to make a mini dress, making it even shorter.

The norigaes are all attached on her shoulders. Whenever she danced, they would bounce around making it even prettier.

After the history lessons, Lee Yoo Na went around looking for the appropriate fabric and pieces for her recreation. After she gathered all her material, she shared with her viewers the grand reveal of her recreation. She drew inspiration from the girl group’s looks to create…

This beautiful hanbok! Wow it is stunning. She revealed that she attached each embroidered motif onto the hanbok individually. Netizens are especially loving her recreation and have been leaving her a lot of love on the video!

She ends the video cutely by asking, “do I look like the 5th member of BLACKPINK?” What an incredibly talented lady! We love the thorough explanations and history behind each look. Watch the entire process and video down below.
