Meet The Hong Kong Model And Singer Who Vows To Inspire Girls To Be True To Themselves
Hong Kong model and independent artist Lezlie Chan is looking to inspire other girls to be who they want to be, using her personal experiences.
Lezlie first gained attention when she participated in a Hong Kong reality show, Extra Beauty, in 2022. Extra Beauty is a beauty pageant show featuring plus-size girls who are confident with their appearance and pay no mind to stereotypes.
Lezlie was full of confidence when introducing herself to the viewers of the show.
I think I’m a beautiful plus-size. My whole body is gorgeous. Extra Beauty allows me to perform my music and allows us girls to show our courage, intelligence, and beauty.
– Lezlie
On the show and through interviews, she revealed she was bullied a lot for her appearance while attending high school, and later on transferred schools as a result.
According to Lezlie, one of the bullies participated in another reality show, and she could not hold her tears back when she saw the bully appear in a video clip.
My body trembles whenever I hear that person’s name. I feel scared and anxious.
– Lezlie
Despite her struggles, she impressed everyone on the show, with one judge even saying that her performance was done at a professional level!
Although Lezlie didn’t end up winning the show, she continued to model, and encouraged others to be true to themselves.
Recently, she released her first solo song, “How Can I.” The self-written track talks about a relationship between two girls and the pressure they face from society. She hopes the lyrics will heal listeners’ wounds and encourage everyone to pursue the love they want.
We hope Lezlie continues giving courage and inspiring other girls facing the same struggles!
