“So F*cking Ugly” — The Scandal-Prone Idol Caught Bad Mouthing Younger Stars And His Own Group Mates
The life of a celebrity can be a hard one, especially when one action interpreted one way can result in a scandal. Scandals, including ones that were seen as overreactions, have greatly impacted idols, as seen with former RIIZE‘s Seunghan.
However, one idol was actually removed from his group following a series of scandals — and continued to cause controversy after.
In 1997, Sech Skies debuted as one of K-Pop’s first-generation groups.
The group formally disbanded in 2003 but reunited in 2016 as five, signing with YG Entertainment for promotions. Shortly after, the group released the digital single “Three Words,” which topped the charts.
In 2018, member Kang Sunghoon was first involved in an alleged scam involving a canceled fan meeting in Taiwan.
Taiwanese reports claimed that Kang Sunghoon unilaterally canceled the fan meetings, which caused the affiliated Taiwanese companies to incur a loss of about $90,000 USD (100 million won), and, at the time, fans had not received refunds.
The idol’s own fan club, Hoony World, was in charge of the event following suspicions of money laundering.
SECHS KIES’ Kang Sunghoon Faces Charges Over Fraud And Embezzlement
The idol addressed and denied all claims, but soon faced charges after members of Hoony World claimed they had been deceived the group by embezzling the profits from SECHS KIES’ 20th-year-anniversary event ticket sales that were meant to be given to charity.
This came after an ex-manager reported that the idol and a stylist had broken into his home.
As a result of these scandals, Sunghoon was announced to no longer be a group member in January 2019.
The scandals did not stop there, however; Sunghoon was captured on video discussing current idols looks, saying that they were “so f*cking ugly” at one point.

Hey, but you know what? Recently idols look really ugly. When I see them at the salon, they’re so fucking ugly. Their skin is so dirty. They’re so fucking ugly, really. Why are they so ugly?

Subsequently, it was believed that the idol had left negative comments on posts about other celebrities, including his own former group mates. Fans also exposed the idol for having held beauty pageant like competitions amongst fans at his events in the past.
Out of a believed 8 fraud charges, the idol has been acquitted on five (winning a civil trial against the organizers of the Taiwan fan meeting), sentenced to prison during a 2011 case, and two were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
The idol released a single in December 2019 and after a release in September 2021, has not released music since. After a hiatus on social media that began in 2022, he has resumed posting content, including on his TikTok.
