She beat thousands of applicants.

A Japanese teen was awarded a prestigious title, but the reaction of her mother was not what as expected.

The Miss Cutest High School Girl contest (Miss Con for short) is an annual competition that aims to find the Japanese girl who fits this title the best.

On December 3, 16-year-old Risa Yonezawa beat 40,000 applicants to win the competition. Second place went to Karin Sakaguchi, also known as Rintan, a second-year high school student from Okayama Prefecture.
