Jessi Reveals How PSY Persuaded Her To Continue Pursuing A Career In Music
When PSY first decided to open his record label P NATION in 2019, the first artist that signed was soloist Jessi. Since then, she has had success with hits such as “Nunu Nana” and her latest track, “What Type of X.”
In an interview with Rolling Stones Korea, Jessi was honest and said that she was reluctant to accept PSY’s offer. Jessi explained how she was at a time in her life where she wasn’t sure whether she wanted to continue pursuing music.
At that time of my life, I had another phase where I wanted to kind of give up on my career.
— Jessi
Before PSY approached her, Jessi had been in the industry for 15 years as both a soloist and part of the group Lucky J, and it wasn’t an easy time.
I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. I was not in a good mental state of mind. I think that was the time I was so overworked, but I wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do. I kind of felt as if I needed a break and I needed to go to America.
— Jessi
During this time, Jessi met with PSY and offered her a place at P NATION. Despite her initial reluctance, Jessie explained that he was the one person who “Somehow made me snap out of it.” He promised to make her a superstar, and that led her to sign the contract.
Fans have noticed how supportive PSY is of his artists, and Jessi made it clear that he helped her to start a new chapter in her career.
