The K-Pop Idol Who Left Her Group Because She “Couldn’t Sing”
While it is not uncommon for idols to leave their groups, the reasons for their departure are usually not something to joke about.
However, one idol turned this idea on its head with a statement of why she allegedly left her group.
In 2010, 9Muses (or NineMuses) debuted with the track “No Playboy.” The group’s nine members were marketed as “model dolls,” many of whom had worked as such before their debut.
Almost immediately, the group had line-up changes, with member Jaekyung being the first to go. Members Bini and Rana followed, leaving the group to focus on acting and modeling, while Euaerin left to focus on her studies (though she later rejoined).
During an appearance on 1000 Song Challenge, Rana was said to have “revealed” her reason for leaving the group to former Miss Korea Lim Ji Yeon before the show. According to Lim Ji Yeon, she quit being a singer because she couldn’t sing, saying that Rana said, “You’ll see later. I can’t sing.”
Since leaving the group, Rana has worked as a DJ, alone and as part of the duo Gaya. She even appeared as a contestant on SBS’s DJ Show.
In 2018, she made her solo debut with the electronic track “NANANA (Feat. Ella Loponte). ”
These days, Rana is active on Instagram, where she shares life updates and her DJ gigs. She has appeared at several events inside and outside of Korea, including Thailand recently.
