LAPILLUS’s Haeun Opens Up About Being One Of The Youngest Idols To Ever Debut
LAPILLUS recently made their successful debut with their single “HIT YA!” The rookie group started with a strong fanbase thanks to Chanty and Shana‘s already-existent popularity, and the upbeat debut track certainly didn’t disappoint fans.
LAPILLUS’s maknae Haeun has garnered netizens’ attention for her fierce stage presence…
And her incredibly young age. Haeun was born in November 2008, which makes her only 13 years old, one of the youngest K-Pop idols to ever debut.
The age that K-Pop idols should debut is a never-ending discussion among netizens, many of whom believe that K-Pop groups are debuting idols too young, especially with the harsh reality of idol life. Given the incredibly demanding schedules of idols, the heavy emphasis the K-Pop industry places on visuals and dieting, and the emotional toll of dealing with public opinion, netizens are worried that young idols, like Haeun, will greatly struggle at the cost of pursuing their dream.
But in an interview with FANVATAR, Haeun tells fans that she doesn’t feel young when it comes to her performances.
I’m young, but in terms of performance, I’m not young at all.
-Haeun
Haeun asks that fans try to look beyond her age and enjoy the effort she puts into her stages.
So, I hope you can see how good I am.
-Haeun
And when directly asked about how it felt to be one of the youngest K-Pop idols to debut, Haeun shares that until people started talking to her about her age, she hadn’t felt young.
I didn’t think I was young.
-Haeun
Which she explains is mainly because when she’s in school, she isn’t the youngest.
I’m in eighth grade. There are juniors and I’m a senior! I didn’t think I was young [until others started to tell me I was].
-Haeun
Regardless of her age, Haeun is already showing her immense talent, and fans can look forward to what amazing skills she will continue to show in the future.
