LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura Wishes She Had Debuted Under Another Name, And Yunjin Almost Did
LE SSERAFIM‘s Yunjin and Sakura were the latest guests on Psick University’s PSICK SHOW, where they talked about adjusting to life in Korea, the group’s first anniversary, and more.
LE SSERAFIM recently celebrated their first anniversary, debuting as Source Music‘s newest girl group on May 2, 2022.
The group gave FEARNOTs (LE SSERAFIM fans) a glimpse into their lives as trainees preparing for their debut in a four-episode documentary series, The World Is My Oyster, in September 2022.
The documentary, understandably, couldn’t cover every aspect of the group’s debut preparations, but luckily Sakura and Yunjin let fans in on some more behind-the-scenes pre-debut info when they appeared as guests on PSICK SHOW.
PSICK SHOW host Lee Yong Ju told Yunjin and Sakura there was something he was curious about, pointing out that K-Pop groups typically have at least one member who uses a stage name, and he wondered why LE SSERAFIM chose to debut with their birth names.
The LE SSERAFIM members agreed it was an unusual choice, and Yunjin revealed that two of the group’s members, including herself, almost debuted with a stage name.
Yunjin shared that she almost went by her English name, Jennifer, after the company asked her what she thought about going that route. She didn’t initially want to but contemplated the idea before it was decided she would debut with her birth name, Huh Yunjin.
Sakura wanted to debut under a different name, explaining that she’s been Miyawaki Sakura for so long that she wanted to show fans a different side to herself.
In the end, Sakura continues the legacy of her name that she’s used since debuting in the Japanese pop group HKT48 at the age of 13, before later debuting with K-Pop group IZ*ONE, and finally with LE SSERAFIM last year.
Recently, Sakura opened up more about her decade-long career as an idol. Check out the article below for more!
