Makeup Influencer Shows Why You Can’t Trust Social Media

Nothing is as it seems online.

A beauty influencer recently gained attention for showing the reality behind her Douyin makeup look. Douyin makeup is a popular trend that originated in China and has many variations as shown below. One of the most prominent features of the makeup looks includes a gorgeous, flawless base.

However, a beauty influencer just shared the reality behind her own version of the look. In close-up clips of her makeup, she reveals her skin texture and pores.

However, the moment she changes the lighting and the angle, her skin appears much smoother and more like the typical “flawless” makeup influencer people see on social media.

Upon zooming in, her foundation appears cracked around the nose and even patchy in some areas.

This just goes to show that you can’t trust everything you see online!

Many netizens identified with the reality of the makeup look, proving that what we see online isn’t always true.

  • “If it’s from China, they probably intentionally made it look worse. In Chinese makeup videos, they often draw on dark circles and nasolabial folds, then erase them while applying makeup.”
  • “That skin looks exactly like mine lol. Ugh, because of acne, I have scars + pores like that. If I do matte makeup, it looks exactly like that under natural light. Seriously… I have to do dewy makeup.”
  • “Whenever I watch those videos, I always thought they were amazing at applying double eyelid tape so it doesn’t show, but it does show after all. Is there actually a type of tape that doesn’t show?”

  • “The pores on the cheeks and nose look exactly like mine. But it’s my first time seeing so many pores on the jawline like that.”
