MAMAMOO Once Tried To Run Away While They Were Trainees
On Knowing Bros, MAMAMOO shared a story from their past detailing the time they rebelled during their trainee days.
Rebellion has various levels in the idol world, from breaking a diet to exposing the company on livestreams, but MAMAMOO took it to the next level when they were just trainees.
There was a time we ran away together when we were trainees.

The four lived in the same dorm together, and there were two CCTV cameras: one in the kitchen and one by the door. Since the kitchen was next to the door, the girls had to deceive not one but two cameras.
The reason why there was a CCTV in their kitchen was that the company wanted to make sure the girls were going on a diet. Fortunately for the girls, the CCTV had a blind spot where they could secretly eat.
On the day they decided to run away, the girls put on athletic wear and started warming up in front of the cameras as if announcing they were simply going for a run. In reality, the girls had dropped their regular clothes out the window and would change into them after they left the dorm.
To make their alibi even stronger, the girls acted out an entire conversation, despite the fact that the cameras couldn’t record audio.

With their successful escape, the girls went to Han River and Hongdae, enjoying their “day off” before returning to the dorm. More than running away, it seems like the girls just skipped a day of work.
Because they didn’t have phones and didn’t have a lot of money (they were just trainees, after all), they couldn’t go far. But given the circumstances, their attempt to run away surely seemed like a thrilling rebellion.
The trainee days are often the darkest period in many idols’ lives, thanks to the desperation, sacrifice, and uncertainty that dictates their every day. With such overwhelming pressure and restrictions, it’s no surprise why MAMAMOO attempted to run away, if only for a day. However, the girls grew closer thanks to the incident, and now, they’ve made it so their music is all about confidence and breaking the stereotype, making them true queens in every way possible.
