MAMAMOO’s Solar Revealed The Origins of Their Girl Group Name in Her “Draw My Life” Story
MAMAMOO‘s Solar did her version of Draw My Life and shared the story behind their group name. The video was uploaded to her Youtube vlog, Solarsido, showing off her delightful illustrations as she narrated her life story.
For those unaware, Draw My Life is an internet video wherein the author tells their life story. The video is set to fast motion as the author keeps drawing illustrations on a whiteboard of critical figures and events in their life.
Solar shared that her first ambition was to be a flight attendant someday.
Instead of pursuing this dream, she took up tourism only to realize that the course didn’t fit her, mainly because the height requirement was too high for her.
Her first offer to sing gave birth to the thought of pursuing singing as a career. It led to a long and grueling string of more than 50 auditions. Each rejection at an audition ate at her pride little by little.
Her family strongly imposed on her to let go of this dream. She agreed on the condition that she would take one last audition.
She passed this audition, and it was for Rainbow Bridge World (RBW), her current company, which handles MAMAMOO. Later, she met the other MAMAMOO members, encountering Hwasa and Wheein first and Moonbyul after.
After a series of daily practicing and month-end evaluations, they were given a song to perform for their evaluation. The title of the song then was “MAMAMOO.”
They prepared choreography and costumes for the song and rehearsed for the evaluation. They performed at the after-party of multi-awarded producer and composer Quincy Jones who was in Korea then.
It was then decided that their group would be called “MAMAMOO,” and the title of the song they performed was changed to “Mr. Ambiguous,” which also served as their debut song. And the rest is history.
