“Music Bank” Director Reveals The Criteria They Look At When Selecting MCs
Over the years, K-Pop music show KBS‘s Music Bank has had iconic MCs from SHINee‘s Minho and Wonder Girls‘ Yubin, actor Park Bo Gum and Red Velvet‘s Irene, and most recently, TXT‘s Soobin and Oh My Girl‘s Arin.
The director of Music Bank, Han Kyuong Cheon, recently sat down for an interview and spoke all about the elements that go into creating the show. In particular, he was asked whether there are any requirements or criteria to become an MC for the show.
Han Kyuong Cheon doesn’t believe that the best MCs are always the ones with established careers in the industry. Instead, he looks towards the future, explaining, “We take into consideration the artists’ potential to grow and their popularity.“
He also spoke about the combination of hosts, including how they choose which kind of performer or entertainer is picked. In particular, Han Kyuong Cheon looked at how the dynamic has changed as the expectations of idols have also evolved.
In the past, we appointed a male actor and a female singer. But it is now common for a singer to also recognize themselves as actors. Therefore, the boundary between a singer and an actor has been dissolved.

He then added that because of this blurring of boundaries, although Soobin and Arin are counted as idols, he would love to see them acting in the future. Many MOAs and Miracles would love to see two of their favorite idols acting at some point!
With every new duo bringing something new to the show, it seems as if fans always fall in love with the MCs, proving that the staff at Music Bank know how to spot talent! You can watch the whole interview below for more behind-the-scenes TMI about Music Bank.
