NCT’s Doyoung And Brother Actor Gong Myung Reveal How Supportive Their Parents Were Towards Their Dreams
Brothers NCT‘s Doyoung and actor Gong Myung recently participated in a cute pictorial and interview for W Korea! In their interview, the two discussed their relationship, their parents, and how they accomplished their dreams!
In their interview, Doyoung and Gong Myung were asked how they felt about the both of them being able to achieve their dreams of becoming an actor and singer. Doyoung explained that having his brother debut as an actor first made him want to work harder to succeed in his dream of becoming a singer.
Q: You must have watched each other dream of becoming singers and actors since childhood. How did you run toward your dreams and watch your dreams come true?
Since I was very young, I had a firm heart to become a singer in the future. On the other hand, my brother was able to step into the entertainment world before me with a good opportunity. It seems that there was a spirit of competition in good faith. At the same time, I liked to support my brother, and at the same time, I was given very good energy to work hard from it.

Because the dream of joining the entertainment industry is competitive and challenging, many parents often discourage their children and ask that they do something else with their lives; however, Doyoung and Gong Myung explained that their parents were more than supportive.
Q: Was there any opposition from your parents in the process of dreaming of becoming an entertainment industry?
Not at all. I’m very thankful they always supported us to challenge our dreams. They constantly created opportunities. My debut was also influenced by my mother. When I was worried about my career for a long time, my mom was able to dream to make my dream come true of becoming an actor because she looked for model academies.

Not only were their parents supportive and positive about their dreams, but they also made sure Doyoung and Gong Myung worked extremely hard to do well in their careers.
They always made us prove that we can do it. It wasn’t just ‘Do it because you want it,’ it was more like ‘Do it, but make sure you show how good you are.’ They let me know how to compromise between dream and reality. Even now, my parents were very wise.

It seems that the two’s parents also had big goals when they were younger. Doyoung and Gong Myung’s father was a weightlifter and their mother was a track athlete!
Q: Isn’t your father a weightlifter and your mother a track and field athlete? When it comes to arts and sports, it seems that they have taught you how to wisely separate dreams and reality.
Suddenly I remembered, there was a time when her mother was over forty years old and suddenly she said she was going to run a marathon. She ran for two hours every morning and evening, and in the end, she finished third in the competition. She looked at it and she felt there was nothing she couldn’t do. She thought that she could call it hard work only when she ran into such limits and worked hard.

Through their parents, Doyoung and Gong Myung inherited their hard-working mindset and behavior! They also received the lesson of always being kind and patient. Gong Myung mentioned that this lesson really stuck with them as celebrities and reminds them not to let fame get to their heads.
Q: What is the greatest legacy you have inherited from your parents?
It seems to be a straightforward personality and thought. Since my parents are always considerate of the other person, I naturally grew up to be such a person, and since I am a person who does not give up patience and tenacity no matter what I do, I must have grown up as a person who can see life far and run for a long time. Especially because celebrities are always in a position to receive care from others due to the nature of their profession. It’s easy to get ruined by narcissism, but thanks to my parents, I don’t seem to live such a life.
