Netizens Point Out The Absence Of HYBE Artists From Melon Chart
HYBE, which was considered one of the most successful K-Pop agencies until a short while ago, was missing from the top Korean music chart recently and netizens took notice.
Despite HYBE artists being known for their dominance over music charts, a netizen posted about the top songs charting on Melon, the leading music streaming platform in South Korea. The Top 100 chart on October 24 included artists like BLACPINK’s Rosé, Jennie, aespa as a whole group as well as Karina as a solo artist, and DAY6.
Though the OP (original poster) only mentioned that they “liked” how the chart looked, most netizens noted that the top-charting songs were all by artists from the “Big 3,” namely YG Entertainment (Jennie and Rosé), SM Entertainment (aespa), and JYP Entertainment (DAY6). While most of the songs were recently released, DAY6’s “Happy” is a March release, which made HYBE artists’ absence from the chart stand out even more. Netizens, however, seemed happy with this development.
- “The unification of the Big 3.”
- “I really like this.”
- “It feels like HYBE is facing a downtrend.”
— “Good.”
- “Whoa! These are the very fundamentals.”
- “HYBE’s downfall is so satisfying. I wish they fail harder.”
- “Wow, these are really the OG agencies.”
Meanwhile, HYBE is facing increased scrutiny due to allegations levied against them at the recent National Assembly audit. Read more about it here.
