The Popular Female K-Pop Idol Who Has Never Received A Daesang Award At The “Seoul Music Awards”
The 32nd Seoul Music Awards recently concluded, granting over 30 awards to K-Pop’s top artists.
Each year, the Seoul Music Awards acknowledges artists with awards such as a Bonsang, or main prize, “New Artist Award,” “Best Album,” “Best Song,” various genre-specific awards, and one lucky artist wins the grand prize or Daesang.
The most awarded K-Pop artists since the award show’s beginning in 1990 include BTS, EXO, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, BIGBANG, TVXQ, IU, and more.
The popular music award ceremony has not been without its share of criticism, with the Seoul Music Awards detecting “abnormal voting” for IZ*ONE in 2020, releasing an official statement in response. Fans have repeatedly accused the awards results of being rigged over the years.

After this year’s results, netizens reflected on the past Daesang winners and realized one notable absence among those awarded, leaving netizens surprised.
Although top K-Pop female soloist IU is one of the most awarded artists at the Seoul Music Awards with seven total awards, tied with Red Velvet, SEVENTEEN, SISTAR, and TWICE, she never received the Daesang.
While IU’s incredible and well-decorated career is not impacted by the lack of a Daesang from the Seoul Music Awards, netizens found it difficult to believe she hadn’t won the award in her 15-year career.
Netizens took to a popular online community board, sharing that it’s hard to take the Seoul Music Awards seriously while reacting to IU’s absence among the Seoul Music Awards Daesang winners.
- “It’s not like an award ceremony. It’s an agency party.”
- “Oh my… is this for real?”
- “It’s an award ceremony without authority ㅋㅋㅋ I’m beginning to realize this.”
- “But actually, it doesn’t matter if [IU doesn’t] get an award ceremony because IU is already the best of the best ㅋㅋ”
- “Is this for real?”
- “It’s okay not to receive an award from a lack of authority”
- “No way”
- “Really? Wow..”
- “I can’t believe it”
