Rookie Group Queenz Eye Has A Surprisingly Supportive CEO

“A girl group idol should weigh around 60kg.”

In an industry where new groups emerge and compete for the spotlight more often than not, one rookie group has been making steady waves, not only with their unique talents but also due to the surprising support from their CEO. The group in question is none other than Queenz Eye, a five-member girl group jointly managed by Big Mountain Entertainment and Media Lab SISO.

Queenz Eye made a stellar debut on October 24, 2022, with the single album Queenz Table. Since then, the group has proven that their talents run deep and wide. Their first comeback in the first half of 2023, along with the release of their second digital single, “UNI-Q” on July 6, showed their determination and versatility.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The group underwent a reorganization after Jenna, one of the original members, departed due to personal reasons. Yet, the remaining members — Hannah, Narin, Wonchae, Ahyoon, and Damin – took this change in stride and continued to captivate audiences with their sheer talent and mesmerizing performances.

This perseverance is undoubtedly a testament to their resilience. However, one unexpected factor in their journey is the remarkable support they’ve received from their CEOs, notably Song Eun Yi of Media Lab SISO.

In a recent interview, group leader Wonchae shed light on CEO Song Eun Yi’s unique approach to management. She detailed the CEO’s supportive presence from their trainee days, during monthly evaluations — even on the set of their debut music video. According to Wonchae, Song isn’t just a CEO — she acts like a mentor and a guiding light, giving thoughtful advice and encouraging them to leverage their individual charms.

Most strikingly, Song’s support extends beyond the professional sphere. Won Chae shared that before their debut, the CEO had given them ₩1.00 million KRW (about $791 USD) for a company dinner, a gesture that speaks volumes about her care for the group’s wellbeing. Even recently, she provided ₩200,000 KRW (about $158 USD) for them to buy fresh fruit juice, a small yet significant sign of her continued support.

The CEO’s casual, humorous approach when interacting with the members is refreshing. Her light-hearted comments about their weight subtly break the unhealthy weight standards that are often associated with the idol industry.

She always jokes, saying, ‘You’re so skinny,’ or ‘A girl group idol should weigh around 60kg.’

With such a supportive CEO, Queenz Eye has not only a strong backing but also a nurturing environment that helps them grow as artists. This empowering story is a testament to the fact that in K-pop, it’s not only the glittering lights and catchy tunes that matter. It’s also about creating an environment where artists can thrive.
