Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung Discusses A “Huge Issue” From The Past With Kim Jaejoong, But He Has A Different Perspective
Soloist Kim Jaejoong recently began his own variety program, JaeFriends, and for a fun twist, he doesn’t know who his special guest is going to be until he begins filming.
At the beginning of the video, he guesses who the fellow celeb will be based on clues, and his latest guest was none other than his former labelmate, Girls’ Generation‘s Sooyoung!
Sooyoung joined SM Entertainment as a trainee in 2000 through an open audition, and Jaejoong joined a year later through an audition as well.
Although Sooyoung was a senior within the company, Jaejoong was able to debut under SM Entertainment first when TVXQ released their debut single “Hug” on December 26, 2003.
While filming with her former labelmate, Sooyoung took the opportunity to ask Jaejoong about a memory that has stuck with her over the years.
Sooyoung reminded Jaejoong of the time Girls’ Generation was promoting “Kissing You,” and TVXQ was promoting “Purple Line” in 2008. Sooyoung shared it was the “first time in history” that TVXQ performed before Girls’ Generation.
Normally, the last performance was reserved for the senior group, but the rookie girl group’s conflicting schedules caused them to run behind for their live Music Bank filming.
Since they were late due to their previous schedule, the Girls’ Generation members panicked, thinking they couldn’t perform in the music program.
Instead, their manager made the executive decision that TVXQ would perform first.
As Sooyoung explained the story, she was amazed Jaejoong didn’t remember it while sharing it was a “huge issue” at the time, and it was hard to miss the Girls’ Generation members sprinting through the KBS building with their candy props for their live “Kissing You” performance.
Sooyoung recalled senior artists in the building clapping to show support for the stressed Girls’ Generation members as they ran through the hallways.
That same day, the girl group earned a first-place music program trophy for the first time, only six months into her debut.
Sooyoung shared that the Girls’ Generation members felt “sorry for many reasons,” and she wanted to know how Jaejoong felt about the situation.
Although he didn’t remember, he assured Sooyoung that TVXQ was likely happy they didn’t have to perform last because they could go home early.
All’s well that ends well!
