“Tougher Than Military Enlistment”: PENTAGON Hui’s Unexpected Revelation On “Boys Planet”
PENTAGON‘s Hui, who recently participated in MNET‘s survival boy group show Boys Planet, surprised fans by stating that he considered the survival program more challenging than the military training he underwent during his enlistment days. Hui, representing his agency Cube Entertainment, showcased his talent and dedication on the reality show but unfortunately was eliminated in the finale, ranking 13th and missing out on the opportunity to debut as a member of ZEROBASEONE.
Hui’s military enlistment began on February 18, following an announcement made by Cube Entertainment a few weeks prior. After serving his time as a public service worker, he was discharged on November 17, 2022. When asked to compare the difficulty level of military training and his experience on Boys Planet, Hui unexpectedly chose the survival show. Hui shared that the experience was so hard he “wondered if it’s okay to be this difficult.”
Due to heightened sensitivity, the burden was so great that even though I wasn’t actually in pain, I felt the pain intensely.

The talented artist revealed that participating in the survival program placed a tremendous burden on him. He felt immense pressure, knowing that any mistake made on stage could have serious consequences. The heightened sensitivity and the weight of the competition created an enormous burden for him, to the extent that he felt intense pain even when he wasn’t physically hurt. Hui’s emotional investment in the show was evident as he poured his heart and soul into each performance.
There was a tremendous burden. I carried the pressure that if I made any mistakes on stage, it would be a big problem. Every stage was precious, but it felt like I was risking my life every time I stepped on stage.

Boys Planet is a program where different individuals, aspiring or existing idols, compete for the chance to be selected as one of the members set to debut in a new group. Hui acknowledged the difficulty of reinventing oneself in a new form, especially when you are already recognized and known by the public. Through this experience, he gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by aspiring idols and the immense effort required to succeed in the industry.
It’s a program where young people compete to be selected as rookie idols. I learned and realized that it is really difficult to be shown again in a new form when you are someone who is already recognized and known.
