A Western song is being mistaken for K-Pop on the video-sharing app TikTok.
Recently, LA-based Vietnamese American singer-songwriter thuy shared a video clip from her “girls like me don’t cry” music video. She wrote, “pov: instead of going to cry i made this song.”

It went viral with 804K views at the time of writing. Netizens were shook to discover that the song was not by a K-Pop artist.
Thuy responded with a couple of videos. In one, she asked why so many thought “girls like me don’t cry” was a K-Pop song. But she was complimented!

This video went viral with 4.9M views at the time of writing. Even more, netizens were shocked to discover the song was not by either K-Pop girl groups NewJeans or FIFTY FIFTY.
Discovering that a lot of people, especially K-Pop fans, mistook her song for one by FIFTY FIFTY, thuy shared a mashup of “girls like me don’t cry” and FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid” by MADTREE (@madfntree on TikTok).
