TWICE’s Nayeon Confesses She Suffers From A Herniated Disk In Her Neck
In an episode of K Survival Story, DAY6‘s Young K and TWICE‘s Nayeon reminisced about their lives, their trainee days together, and their favorite things. Nayeon also briefly mentioned a health issue she has been dealing with.
Midway through the interview, the “POP!” singer whipped out one of her favorite travel essentials—an ergonomic pillow. When Young K asked if it’s inconvenient to carry around during tours, she explained that she owns three identical pillows and keeps one in her suitcase to ensure she never forgets it.
- Nayeon: This is something I really carry around when I travel abroad. It’s dirty. (laughs)
- Young K: Isn’t it annoying to carry around during tours?
- Nayeon: So I have three of the same thing, and this is for overseas. I just leave it in my suitcase so I don’t forget.
However, the reason it’s so essential for her is unfortunate: she revealed that she suffers from a herniated disk in her neck, a condition often caused by overexertion, repetitive movements, and improper lifting techniques.
This condition causes Nayeon to experience stiff necks, making restful sleep crucial for her ability to dance and perform well the next day. This is why the pillow is a necessity for her.
I have a herniated disk on my neck. I have stiff necks a lot, so if I don’t sleep well, it’s really hard to dance or perform the next day, so this is a must.
— Nayeon
She added that she wasn’t promoting the pillow as she had purchased it with her own money.
Nayeon isn’t the sole member diagnosed with a herniated disk in her neck.
Three years ago, Jeongyeon revealed that she developed the condition after sustaining an injury during practice, highlighting the physical demands and risks involved in being a K-Pop idol.
In the same interview, Nayeon also discussed what her diet is like during promotional periods. Read more about it in the article below.
