The Problem With K-Pop’s Safety Shorts For Wardrobe Malfunctions
Safety shorts, usually a pair of skin-tight biker shorts, are worn to prevent wardrobe malfunctions from happening during idols’ performances and other public appearances.
Safety shorts are usually worn by female K-Pop idols who are performing in short skirts or shorts. Without them, the risk of accidental exposure is much higher, and idols might feel less comfortable in their outfits.
NewJeans‘s stylists have been praised for dressing the young idols in long safety shorts that provide more modesty than shorter safety shorts…
…but not everyone loves this aesthetic. Some fans feel that when safety shorts are too visible, they ruin the aesthetic of idols’ outfits.

Safety shorts are, in theory, supposed to prevent wardrobe malfunctions, but sometimes they play a role in causing them. As some fans have pointed out, idols, like TWICE‘s Nayeon, have been dressed in extremely short, comfortable skirts that interfere with their dancing.
