TWICE’s Jihyo Manifested Her Mighty Thor Cover For 1st Look
The MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, has impacted the world like no film franchise. Its influence has felt all-encompassing and inevitable in pop culture. Of course, that includes K-Pop! From interviews to costumes, interactions, and crossovers from an ordinary person to an idol or celebrity, Marvel is everywhere, and everyone can be a fan!
Just like most folks, many K-Pop idols share the dream of somehow being, or at least collaborating, with the MCU. Sadly, even for stars like them, it will likely only stay a fantasy. A few Korean celebrities have managed to break through to the world of superheroes, though! A couple of examples would include Park Seo Joon, who will play an undisclosed character in the upcoming film The Marvels, and Ma Dong Seok, who played Gilgamesh in Eternals.
Another Korean celebrity who managed to have a connection to Marvel is TWICE‘s fearless leader, Jihyo! She has been a longtime fan of the MCU, and she modeled as the Mighty Thor on the cover of 1st Look magazine’s volume 241 in June 2022.
One crucial detail in this photo is that Jihyo isn’t trying to portray Chris Hemsworth‘s version of the comic book character. She’s explicitly holding the version of Mjölnir that Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, used in Thor: Love and Thunder to transform into Mighty Thor. What an incredible connection between the two powerful women!
The craziest part about this is that Jihyo said she would be Thor in a previous interview in 2018. It all happened because she was asked by a fan to assign Marvel’s Avengers characters to all the TWICE members. With help and approval from the other girls, she chose Tzuyu as Hulk, Chaeyoung as Spider-Man, Dahyun as Rocket Racoon, Mina as Dr. Strange, Sana as Scarlet Witch, Momo as Black Widow, Jeongyeon as Hawkeye, and finally Nayeon as Iron Man.
Last but not least, she declared, “I’ll be Thor!” Which, based on her reaction, she was delighted with. How leaderlike of her to prioritize the other TWICE girls over herself!
It’s easy to forget that even as famous idols, people like Jihyo still have goals and aspirations. Let’s hope the other TWICE members also get the chance to play superheroes in the future!
