TXT’s Beomgyu And Soobin Were Left Shook After Finding Out How Young NewJeans’ Hyein Debuted At
One of the most talked about groups in K-Pop right now has to be NewJeans. Debuting under HYBE‘s sublabel ADOR, the girl group has been the talk of netizens.
While the group has shined with their talent and charisma, some have also raised concerns about the ages of the members. The oldest members were born in 2004, while the maknae Hyein was born in 2008, which made her only 14 years old when she debuted. Yet, netizens have been unable to deny the members’ talent, explaining that any criticism falls on the company rather than the group themselves.
Although many netizens have raised concerns about the age of the members for various reasons, it seems as if nobody was as shocked as other idols themselves. Two idols who had the most iconic reactions to the ages of NewJeans were none other than fellow HYBE idols TXT‘s Soobin and Beomgyu.
The two TXT members are the middle children of the group, with Soobin being born in 2000 and Beomgyu in 2001. The duo has always had a hilarious friendship and proved it in a live broadcast. During the broadcast, the members showed their support for their labelmates by watching NewJeans’ music video and praising the members.

After watching the music video and reading comments, Beomgyu explained that he knew that the youngest member, Hyein, was born in 2008, but then Soobin wondered how old that made her.
Soobin then made the calculations and realized that Hyein was only 14 years old (international age). As soon as the reality hit him, Soobin’s face erupted into something that looked like the iconic shocked Pikachu meme. Even Beomgyu seemed shocked and had to clarify what Soobin meant, adding, “Now?”
Soobin couldn’t hide his emotions as reality hit him that the NewJeans’ maknae was 14 years old, which was five years younger than their own youngest members, Taehyun and Hueningkai. Unsurprisingly, considering they are so young but also very talented, it isn’t shocking that both members didn’t expect them to be so young.
Of course, as a true leader, Soobin explained that the reason he was so shocked was because of the group’s work ethic. The idol couldn’t stop praising NewJeans, adding, “Being able to do this at such a young age is amazing.”
Soobin even joked that when they filmed their music video for “Crown,” he thought his head was going to explode, and he was much older than the member of NewJeans are.
It isn’t the first time an artist from HYBE has been shook by the age of someone in the company. SEVENTEEN‘s Seungkwan had the funniest reaction when finding out the age of LE SSERAFIM‘s youngest member Eunchae.
TXT were young when they debuted back in 2019, yet it still must seem like the ages of idols debuting are getting younger and younger. Although it might be hard for the young idols, with supportive seniors like Soobin and Beomgyu, they will always have someone for advice.
