The Popular 5-Year-Old Group That Hasn’t Had A Concert Tour Yet

In the past, idols having concerts outside of Asia, or even Korea in some circumstances, was a rarer occasion. This has completely changed as time passed, with many groups embarking on tours during the first couple of years of activity.

These days, it is almost expected for groups under larger companies to tour around once a year, taking into account their activity level and other obligations. However, despite recently turning five, some have been puzzled by one popular group’s lack of a world tour.

In 2019, SM Entertainment debuted the next NCT subunit, WayV.

WayV, then seven members, were regarded as NCT’s China-based subunit, operating under Label V. The group steadily gained popularity with each release, attracting international attention with the English version of “Love Talk.”

The group promoted many of their releases in Korea and China, even releasing “Kick Back” in both languages in March 2021. After Kick Back, WayV did not release another album for nearly two years, returning with Phantom following Lucas‘s departure. Their second full album, On My Youth, was released in November 2023.

WayV have held multiple fan meeting tours in China beginning in 2019, which is uncommon for newer groups still building their popularity. Fan meetings usually consist of a group performing a few songs and filling the rest of the time with activities like games or Q&A sessions.

Many fans thought 2023 would be the year WayV held their first tour, but this was not the case. Instead, the group announced their Phantom fan meeting tour, which, admittedly, did take the group to more locations than ever before, in addition to their first KCON LA appearance.

On January 17, 2024, WayV celebrated their fifth anniversary, and amongst the congratulatory messages were also many about WayV’s world tour status.
