Yoo Jae Suk Reveals How He Cast Lee Kwang Soo For “Running Man”
Lee Kwang Soo is an incredibly diverse actor who has appeared in various acclaimed movies and television shows, including the epic action-adventure film The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure, the hilarious disaster-comedy thriller Sinkhole, and the mystery series The Killer’s Shopping List, where he starred alongside AOA‘s Seolhyun.
Despite his stacked resume, many fans would agree that Kwang Soo’s most significant role was being a regular cast member on the variety series Running Man. He gained international attention for his commitment to the show’s games and an endless unbeatable list of funny iconic moments.
After his departure in 2021, Kwang Soo stayed in touch with his former castmates, showing that their relationship went beyond professional courtesy. He recently appeared on Yoo Jae Suk‘s new YouTube channel, 뜬뜬 DdeunDdeun, alongside Ji Suk Jin, reuniting three iconic Running Man members.
The video, part of a series called Just An Excuse, follows Jae Suk as he finds meaningless reasons to talk to his different celebrity friends candidly. Since Kwang Soo and Suk Jin were the featured guests, the trio naturally started reminiscing about their time on Running Man and the show’s beginning.
Jae Suk revealed that he was always close to Suk Jin but first met Kwang Soo through another television series called Come To Play. Their interaction made Jae Suk think Kwang Soo would be great on variety shows.
On the other hand, when Suk Jin first met Kwang Soo, he didn’t think that Kwang Soo would be a good fit for variety shows, proving Jae Suk has always had a keen eye for talent and potential.
Kwang Soo shared that even before Running Man, Jae Suk encouraged him by saying he was funny.
Afterward, when the producer of Running Man asked who they should cast for the show, Jae Suk recommended Kwang Soo. Little did they know that choice would earn Kwang Soo thousands of fans worldwide and launch his career into superstardom.
