The 15-Year-Old K-Pop Idol Who Was Almost Blinded By An Anti-Fan
Fame can bring recognition, wealth, and opportunities to K-Pop idols. Unfortunately, as public figures some idols also become the target of extreme anti-fans.
One of these idols was actress Yoon Eun Hye, a former member of the first-generation girl group Baby V.O.X and star of the hit K-Drama Coffee Prince.

On May 25, 2000–three years after Baby V.O.X’s debut–Eun Hye was attacked while waiting in her agency’s van ahead of a guest appearance on Gyeongin TV‘s program Music Engine. The assailant posed as a fan of Baby V.O.X and offered Eun Hye a Pikachu doll as a present, presumably to get closer to her.
He then shot Eun Hye, then 15, in her right eye with a water gun before fleeing the scene. At the time, the members described the liquid as smelling like soy sauce and vinegar, both of which would be extremely painful to the eye. As a result of the attack, Baby V.O.X canceled their performance, and Eun Hye was taken to the hospital for treatment. Despite sustaining a minor injury to her cornea, Eun Hye chose not to report the assailant to the police.
Rather than rest, Eun Hye continued her group schedules shortly after the attack. “I was injured, and my eye was swollen from the water gun’s spray,” she said during a television broadcast that aired just days later. “but I couldn’t disappoint our fans. So, I came on the show.” At the time, Eun Hye was lauded for her bravery and dedication.
