“I Am A Singer 3” reveals full lineup of 7 teams + interviews
MBC revealed the full lineup for I Am A Singer 3 during its first filming on January 21st. The seven contestants for the new season will be So Chan Hwi, Lee Soo, Park Jung Hyun, Yang Pa, SISTAR’s Hyorin, Ha Dong Gyun, and Sweet Sorrow.
With a mix of artists from the 90’s and 2000’s, and the first appearance of an idol singer with SISTAR’s Hyorin, the show attempts to appeal to a wider audience than with its past seasons.
The producer of the show stated that the preparation for the show, which began in October 2014, was “not easy,” due to the caliber of singers that is normally expected from I Am A Singer.
TV Report recently released its interviews with the contestants. For some, this was their first time on stage in many years, such as Lee Soo, who had yet to perform on stage since 2009. Yang Pa, who is also returning after a long hiatus, revealed that she is excited to sing a fresh version of her 1997 hit single “Young Love.”
Repeat contestants in I Am A Singer 3 are Park Jung Hyun, who will also take the role of MC this season, and So Chan Hwi, who feels “a huge burden from being one of the contestants who was eliminated in Season 2.”
He noted, however, that he and fellow 90’s singers Park Jung Hyun and Yang Pa are currently enjoying a boost of popularity from the recent hit show Saturday, Saturday is for Singers (TOTOGA), which featured several famous 90’s singers such as S.E.S, Turbo, and past I Am A Singer contestant Kim Gun Mo.
New contestants Hyorin, Ha Dong Gyun, and Sweet Sorrow revealed that they felt particularly nervous for the show. None of these singers are amateurs, however, as Hyorin has already participated in the popular singing program Immortal Song, and both Sweet Sorrow and Ha Dong Gyun have been active in the music scene for over 10 years.
In the interview, Hyorin stated that, “On Immortal Song, I wanted to show a new side of myself other than SISTAR’s Hyorin. I thought for a long time about how I will present myself on I Am A Singer 3.”
Sweet Sorrow, on the other hand, revealed that they were surprised that a vocal group like themselves could participate in the show. “The producer said that there weren’t many groups who were up to the standard of the show. We were surprised to hear this. We are very different from the image and singing ability of previous show contestants, but we decided to participate after speaking with the producer.”
