Big Byung makes a comeback with “Ojingeo Doenjang” MV
On December 16th, project group Big Byung revealed their music video for a new title track “Ojingeo Doenjang” (also known as “Squid Soybean Paste”)!
Comprising of Wang Kong (GOT7’s Jackson), Dol Baegi (VIXX’s N), Hyuk Ddi (VIXX’s Hyuk), and Yook Duck (BTOB’s Sungjae), the four reunited for yet another comical music video, which will either make you either speechless or full of laughter after watching their video.
The song revolves around the idea of being squids (literal translation of ojingeo), a trending Korean slang which describes a person who is not outstanding, commonly used to describe the not-so-good-looking individuals when they stand beside a good-looking person. Big Byung sings about how they accept the fact that they are called squids, flapping their arms furiously like squids in the video, but they are not ashamed to be one.
The music video made full use of CG effects, where the entire filming took place in the studio, and post-editing it with the background settings in the city of Macau, including the Ruins of St. Paul’s, traditional back-alley streets, and the iconic busy Macao casinos.
English subtitles are also provided to allow fans to follow along to what they are singing, although most of the lyrics do not make much sense. In fact, the project group has gained much popularity due to their willingness to let go of their idol burden, showing a contrast to the typical K-Pop music videos with flashy styles and neat dance choreography.
Just like their first music video released in 2013 with “Stress Come On!“, this new music video also included cameo appearances by the producers of the group, Defconn and Hyungdon.
Although they were initially planning to disband right after releasing “Stress Come On!”, Big Byung decided to follow up with a comeback due to their popularity. Not only are they back with a second season of their own variety show Hit Maker, they have also proven their status in the K-Pop industry as they were invited to be the first performers of MBC year-end music festival Gayo Daejejeon. Defconn and Hyungdon also decided to produce a female version of Big Byung, inviting G.NA, After School’s Lizzy, 4minute’s Sohyun, and KARA’s Youngji!
